He attended Rhodes College as an undergraduate before going on to obtain both his master’s and law degrees from the University of Tennessee. Matt’s practice is focused in the areas of plaintiff personal injury, car & tractor-trailer wrecks, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and premises liability. He practices law throughout all three grand divisions of the state of Tennessee and in Kentucky.

He currently serves as a Trustee for LIFT (Lawyers Involved for Tennessee) and is a Fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation. Matt won Tennessee Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2024 for his work on Justin Bing vs. Nagy et al. Following a three-week trial, the jury in Bing unanimously awarded Matt’s client $16.1 million dollars, the largest medical malpractice verdict in Nashville history. Matt has further earned AV Preeminent® certification by Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™, reflecting the highest level of professional excellence. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers®, named among the “10 Best in Tennessee” for Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys, and selected as a Mid-South Super Lawyer. Matt is also an Eagle Scout.
Matt and his wife Janet are proud parents to Henry, Grace, and Vivian. Matt loves coaching and watching his children’s many sports activities. He enjoys spending as much time as possible on 30A in Florida with family and friends, as well as playing golf, tennis, and lawyer league softball (two-time league champions and city league champions). Matt and Janet are members of Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville. Matt is always on the search for perfect southern barbeque and remains convinced that the Tennessee Vols football team will, this season, again stand alone on the mountaintop.
