Nashville has experienced tremendous growth over the years, but like any major city, it has also faced tragic events that left lasting marks on the community. While no one expects to be involved in a catastrophic incident, history is a reminder of how quickly lives can change.
At Matt Hardin Law, we believe understanding past tragedies can underscore the importance of safety, accountability, and knowing your rights after a serious injury.
The 2010 Nashville Flood
In early May 2010, record-breaking rainfall triggered catastrophic flooding across Nashville and Middle Tennessee. The National Weather Service documented a two-day rainfall total of 13.57 inches in Nashville (May 1–2), shattering prior records.
The same NWS summary reports the storm killed 18 people in Middle Tennessee, with damage estimates reaching into the billions. A National Weather Service service assessment later estimated flood damage at more than $2 billion across the hardest-hit region.

Lessons From Nashville’s Most Serious Incidents
These events differ in cause, but they share common themes:
- Unexpected danger
- Severe injuries and loss of life
- Long-term emotional and financial consequences
In the aftermath of a catastrophic incident, victims often face mounting medical bills, lost income, and uncertainty about the future. Insurance claims can become complicated, particularly when multiple parties are involved.
If you are considering whether to manage your case independently, reviewing what it means to handle your own claim without an attorney can help you understand potential risks. You may also benefit from learning whether you need a lawyer or an insurance agent to protect your interests.
Moving Forward After a Tragedy

At Matt Hardin Law, we are dedicated to helping accident victims navigate complex legal processes with clarity and compassion. If you or a loved one has been injured in a serious incident in Nashville, understanding your rights is an important first step.
